ISOCIALLITE’S GENESIS TO BUILDING BRANDS
The world around us continues to change drastically, spurred on by technological advancements which become part of our lives. Social media is the new wave that is transforming the way in which we see, communicate and interact with one another and the world around us.
Being a media guru that balances both traditional and new media to help companies and individual brands to grow is a profession and industry that is gaining momentum here in Malawi. Alpha Sky is a Social Media Marketing Specialist with a background in Defense Logistic Supply Chain Management and Creative Media. He is building a career that will allow him to tour the world as a motivational speaker, guiding people in how to follow their aspirations. He wants to transform the perspective most businesses have of marketing and social media, so that they see the value in using social media as a powerful advertisement tool.
Alpha Sky is the founder of iSociallite, a media agency that recognizes and teaches talented individuals how to capitalize on their talent by building their social media influencer profiles and brand identities for new and established companies.
iSociallite, also known as Sociallite, was inspired by Alpha’s experience as an influencer when he found that he was not the only one having problems with growing his brand, other influencers and creatives were too. After hitting a milestone in his YouTube career, companies would approach him to endorse their products in his videos and on his secondary platforms, as a way of getting access to his audience reach. With this knowledge, he set out to be active in approaching the companies himself. This worked for a while until the marketing companies made it nearly impossible for an influencer such as himself to access big brand deals. These companies were big conglomerates with a greater focus and higher likelihood of working with big celebrities, such as TV stars, musicians and actors, as a way of continuing to increase their market share and revenue.
In 2018, Alpha returned to Malawi and saw the untapped market of influencer endorsement and social media growth, so he dived in headfirst. A network system like this is very important in a country like Malawi where local talent needs to be propelled to global audiences as a way of marketing country and contributing to the growth of the economy, Alpha says.
His background in Creative Media helped him understand the landscape of content in his surroundings and how the possibilities for creativity were limitless. His teachers and family were very supportive in his decision to take creative media as a GCSE subject in secondary school; a step towards his future. After 7 years of creating content and building his brand, his YouTube account got hacked and he lost all his hard work. He decided to take a break from YouTube and focus on growing his brand and followers through other creative means and using platforms, like Instagram, Twitter, amongst others.
As a creative, being able to turn ideas into reality is both a passion and a discipline which deserves fair recognition because of the value that is created and the mental process behind it.
There are certain steps I have taken in the past to handle criticism, but those steps can only go so far, Alpha says. As with most creatives, it tends to be an involving process finding ways of not letting negativity and criticism get to you. There is no foolproof way of avoiding it; it’s part of the journey.
His family’s support in his endeavors has been key to keeping him grounded and determined with the belief that he can achieve whatever he sets his mind to.
